Concerns over workplace safety have been brought into sharp focus following two separate fatal incidents involving employees at lithium-mining company Bikita Minerals within a 48-hour period.

In a statement, Bikita Minerals management announced the unfortunate deaths, saying it was carrying out investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The first incident, involving Thomas Kaliveni (40), a dump truck operator, happened during the night of 06 June 2026.

Kaliveni, who was employed by WGB Kinsey & Company, which is contracted by Bikita Minerals, sustained fatal injuries during an accident at a waste dump site.

This is the second WGB Kinsey & Company employee to die in a work-related accident at Bikita Minerals in less that a year following the death of Farai Murimoga, a spotter, who was fatally crushed by a front-end loader in August 2025.

In another incident, a security guard employed by Rebnek Security, which is contracted by Bikita Minerals, was found dead at his work station.

The employee was reportedly found unresponsive while on duty during routine inspections conducted by a supervisor in the early hours of 7 June 2026.

“The safety, health, and wellbeing of everyone working at our operations remain a core priority,” Bikita Minerals said in a statement.
